The third day of Pongal is dedicated to cattle and is called Mattu Pongal. People offer prayers to the bulls, cows and other farm animals. Cows and bulls have always held a special place in India. Cows give nourishing milk while bulls and oxen help plough the fields. Thus, Maatu Pongal is a day when cattle are given a well deserved day of rest and are given pride of place. Therefore the farmers honor their cattle friends by celebrating it as a day of thanks-giving to them.

India’s Independence Day is celebrated on 15 August to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947. The day is a national holiday in India. All over the country, flag-hoisting ceremonies are conducted by the local administration in attendance. The main event takes place in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts. In his speech, he highlights the achievements of his government during the past year, raises important issues and gives a call for further development. The Prime Minister also pays his tribute to leaders of the freedom struggle. A colourful pageant showcasing India’s cultural diversity, symbolic depictions of the country’s advances in science and technology, and a joint display of India’s military capabilities by the armed forces are an essential part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Nowadays the sporadic increase of business schools in India has rendered many people unable to differentiate between the venerable lot and the also-rans. However Department of Management Studies (DoMS), National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, the college in which I am currently pursing MBA belongs to the former lot. Let me pen down some details about my Alma MaterThe Department of Management Studies(DoMS), NIT Trichy is one of the oldest B-schools in India having being established in the year 1978 as a separate department of NIT Trichy, one of premier engineering institutes of the country. The Course DoMS, NITT follows a trimester pattern and every two months or so an examination time comes along either in the form of a cycle test or in the form of trimester examination. A total of around 34 subjects is being covered in the entire two years duration of the course. Fee Structure The DoMS Mba programme is economical to say the very least. Total fee structure comes to around 1.3 lakhs for two years including hostel and accommodation thereby guaranteeing an exceptional return on investment. Needles to say DoMS ranks prominently as far as the return on investment parameter is considered as the department has 100% placement record. In fact DoMS, NITT was ranked 6th all over India as per the latest B- school survey carried out by the venerable Businessworld magazine, issue dated 24th December 2007.PlacementDoMS has a 100 % placement record. The average salary of the 2005-2007 batch was around 4 lacks per annum.Quality of educationDoMS has well qualified professors and lecturers with extensive industry experience. All the major specialisations are been offered here. Even niche subjects like data analytics which is a happening area in the market right now is been taught here.
Infrastructure The infrastructure is fine here. A computer laboratory with high speed internet connection, well equipped library, air conditioned class rooms provided with LAN connection, separate hostel facilities for gents and ladies all are present not to mention the swimming pool.Life@ DoMS, NIT Trichy. Well finally i come to the most exciting part of my write up. Life rocks here would be an inappropriate clich? to describe the life here. The two years one spends here is anything but hectic, a period filled with more than adequate time at the disposal of those who enjoy indulging in extracurricular activities either inside or outside the Mba spectrum. In short a fun filled and enjoyable period of two years. For more details please contact:

In India, a marriage is considered to be a bond of a lifetime. This marital bond is considered very sacred. Karwa Chauth festival falls about nine days before diwali on the Kartik ki Chauth some time in October or November. It is the most important fast observed by the women of North India. A woman keeps such a fast for the well-being of her husband, who becomes her protector after she leaves her parents home. Her husband provides her with food, shelter, clothing, respectability, comfort and happiness.

Legends
As per a legend in the Mahabharata, once Arjun had gone for worship to the Nilgiri Hills. Draupadi was struck with fear believing that she was alone in the forest with no one to protect her. She invoked Lord Krishna who appeared before her. On hearing her predicament Lord Krishna cited an example of Goddess Parvati. Parvati in a similar situation asked Lord Shiva’s help. Lord Shiva explained to her that to ward off such apprehensions, a woman could observe a fast on Kartik Krishna Chaturthi as a remedy.

There is also the story of the Satyavan and Savitri. Savitri with her unparalleled love for her husband averted his untimely death. When Lord Yama, came to procure Satyavan’s soul, Savitri begged him to grant him life. When he refused, she stopped eating and drinking and Yamraj finally relented. He granted her, her husband’s life.

Celebration
It is a day of celebration and decoration. On the eve of karwa chauth, the markets are full of women preparing for it. Mehndi stalls are set up in every corner of the market, Bindi’s, Red bangles and different types of cosmetics are sold everywhere. Mother-in-laws buy ’sargi’ for their daughter-in-laws. This ’sargi’ consists of various types of sweetmeats, and sometime clothes. All these items are supposed to bring good luck to the women. There is great festivity on this day.

Process
Early in the morning, before sunrise, the women bathe and gather to eat the sweetmeats. They pray to Shiva and Parvati, hoping that their married life would be as successful as theirs. In the afternoon, mothers of newly wed girls give ‘Baya’ to the parents of their son-in-law. This Baya contains few Mathris, Almonds, and some gifts. In every neighbourhood women gather together to perform a puja and to recite the story of ‘Karwa Chauth’. Most women are dressed in beautiful red or pink clothes and in traditional Jewellery.

A small pooja to Gaura Ma or goddess Parvati is performed. Married women sit around Gaura ma and pray to her for the well being and long life of their husbands. A small pitcher or Karva with some water is placed in the centre. While the story is being narrated, ladies circulate their Baya thalis. After the puja this thali is given to the eldest member of the family who blesses the woman with all the happiness in life.

Moonrise is eagerly awaited and everyone in the family keeps a lookout for it. Once the moon is sighted, women gather on the terrace and offer prayers to the moon 7 times. They pray for their husband’s and family’s welfare. Then they have a sip of water and in this way the fast comes to an end.

Dear friends,
Wishing u all avery happy and properous diwali. diwali is a festivali of brightness. this is the brightness of the candles, diyas and lights.

we all know why we celebrate diwali. according to the hindu mythology diwali is celebrated on the day when lord rama returned to ayodhya after an exile of 14 years. all the peoples of ayodhya celebrated the day and the night by singing, dancing and lighting diyas.

we still lights diyas on this day. but along with these diyas we even light crackers. these crackers give out a lot of smoke and noise causing harm to the environment. crackers lead to a lot of air and noise pollution.

many of us might be knowing that these crackers are made by those compny which solely employ children. these children are kept malnutrinized so that they become so thin that theyr fingers can go in the small holes to fill the powder of these crackers.these children can not say no to their employers as they are the ones which are living below the poverty line. these children inhale the poisonous gases of the powder and cannot even survive to thier adulthood.

if we want a bright future forour planet then we must say a straight forward no to pollutants of this kind.

remember that one person ca make many changes in a group.
